Robin, The reason for that is because some sellers sell on both Amazon and eBay. The seller sends all of their inventory to Amazon’s fulfillment centers (using FBA-fulfillment by Amazon) and lists them on Amazon and eBay. If an item sells on eBay, the seller directs Amazon to ship the item to the eBay buyer. That creates two sales channels for the seller and Amazon ships quick with a tracking number. It is a win-win for both buyer and seller.

Avenue 32 is a great example of a brand who divides their products into trends. On their store’s top navigation, a trends section is visible. Want florals? Or stripes? Ruffles? Whatever is the hottest trend within the fashion industry at that moment will be found on that section of their online store. Customers who love a certain pattern or style will likely find products with a consistent look which can help improve the user experience.

And the really beautiful part of that is that you still don’t have to be salesy. You just have to match your sales copy to the reasons people are looking to buy, whether that’s because they’re looking for a great necklace for date night, they’re frustrated by their website, or they’re finally ready to stop visiting the refrigerator every night at 8pm.
Example: Suzy Shier allows their customers to shop by trend. When a customer hovers over the clothing section in the top navigation, they’ll see a list of trends on the right hand side. The trends they list often include skyrocketing fashion trends like frills, florals or athleisure. They regularly change the trends as trends do change regularly, especially in fashion. From a customer perspective, the ability to shop by trend allows them to browse products based on a look they like since it’s easier to find. When items aren’t categorized by trend, customers may end up not seeing an item they would have otherwise bought.
Mary Kay is changing the lives of millions of women worldwide. I'm very proud to be an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay because the company has such an outstanding focus on empowering women and truly changing lives. I became a beauty consultant after spending thousands of dollars on Mary Kay products in my lifetime and finally decided that I should make the leap to start my own business selling the products that I enjoy wearing and rely on for my daily beauty routine.
I am a Founding Consultant for a wonderful new ground floor direct selling company that is currently wide open in the US. The company has been in prelaunch for over a year and during that time has had great success testing their products in several locations in the US. The company was able to create a wonderful new training program and website that makes it so simple to provide training to you and your downline and serve your customers. If the idea of being in business, being the first in your area, and selling upscale products that are guaranteed to be the best in quality and workmanship sounds like something you might like to do. Then, we should talk. I always ask my customers one simple question, “Where can you find the perfect gift for every occasion, have it personalized at no extra charge, gift wrapped and delivered for you and you never have to leave your home to do it?”
No 2 is trickier but it is definitely a product which needs consistent replenishing such as tissue paper. I would therefore guess it is some such household item but this is just off the top my head and without more analysis I wouldn’t be able to say. I would look at the comparative prices of household items in other stores vs amazon, how aggressively amazon is pushing that product, how frequent those purchases are likely to be made, the amount of brand loyalty for that company, the vigor of competition for that item etc etc in order to make a more educated guess.
Now that you have entered your product into the Amazon catalog, the next step is to register your brand with the Amazon Brand Registry. This, in essence, is expressing ownership of your products to Amazon. It will help add a layer of protection to your brand and product listings, as well as open more seller brand marketing features to you, such as Enhanced Brand Content.

Thanks so much for writing this article! Much of what is being said about Amazon is 100% accurate. I work for an American-owned but China based importing company that specifically helps online sellers, and I’m afraid sellers do share some of the blame. Many online sellers are failing to do their product sourcing properly because they’re using outdated guides that worked a few years back but still appear everywhere on the internet. First, they seek out the cheapest manufacturer possibe on Alibaba because they’re testing their business. This leads to them being connected with middlemen and scammers. The deluge of sellers asking for the lowest possible MOQ means the best suppliers just ignore them and move on. And all too often, sellers fail to do a quality control inspection on their goods prior to shipping them to FBA because they just care about sales. As a result, Amazon has started to get very stringent with product quality issues. It really is the sellers responsibility to ensure their goods come from a reputable supplier. No, Alibaba star ratings are not a good indicator because they can be purchased when a supplier joins the site. Sellers should also be testing their goods with a quality control inspection prior to sending to FBA, especially if they’re customized for private label. These are inexpensive (about $200 to have someone go to the factory and check your goods). Defects are common in manufacturing, and smart sellers make sure their order includes recompensatoin for defective units prior to them being shipped to Amazon. Walmart would never put items on the shelf without a qc check and online sellers should follow theri lead. You’re exactly correct that this problem has come from too many folks jumping on the bandwagon without fulling understaing how to import safely. And we agree, the Amazon wave will only last so long. Amazon sees sellers as middle-men driving up the price to line their own pockets, so they are now training Chinese manufactureres to list their products on Amazon themselves. It is those same suppliers who are now undercutting the sellers on Amazon, and frankly, wouldn’t you if you were them? Steve is entirely right that the best strategy is multi-channel selling and that’s why we’re huge fans of this blog!
I have been with Avon for 20 years and I have loved every minute of it! The start up fees are actually $25. $50, or &100. Your choice which kit you purchase. Also, we have one of the most lucrative earning plans since we can earn from 20% all the way to 50%! We have had people come and go, the people who stay, as with any other direct sales company, are the people that treat it as a business instead of a hobby. I like Avon because we have a little of bit of everything, and we will be adding a health category next year! Cannot wait to learn about this next month at rep fest!

Ear wax removal kits have been on the rise over the past few years but saw a huge jump in popularity in 2016 and it shows no signs of slowing down. One of the biggest advantages of selling personal hygiene products is that it guarantees repeated sales. The success story on Kickstarter of a new startup, Eeears, shows that there is a huge demand for such product.

Here, we’ve tried a ‘cat hoodie’ query. The ‘related queries’ category gives us additional product ideas: from this field, we see that people are also looking for specific types of cat hoodies (hoodies with kangaroo pouches) and specific prints (‘never bring a bat to a cat fight’, ‘I am a cat’, etc.). This data will surely be useful at the stage of picking items!
